It is possible to structure a product code (or fixed asset code) so that it conveys meaning on its own.

For example, a wine merchant might code their products as follows:

• 2 letters to indicate the colour of the wine, e.g. BL for white
• 1 letter to indicate the type of vinification, e.g. P for sparkling
• 2 digits to indicate a sub-type, e.g. 01 for Champagne

A product coded BL-P-01-BTRNEUVILLE could therefore refer to a ‘Brut Tradition’ Champagne from a top-quality brand (the separator is optional; we could use BLP01BTRNEUVILLE)

This principle can also be used for coding fixed assets.

settings 

The===== =====general settings ( ) allow you to define the desired number of hierarchical coding levels for the product code, the input masks for each level, and any separator (hyphen, underscore, slash, asterisk, etc.).

Input masks may include:

• 9s: for numeric characters
• Ls: uppercase letters
• ls: lowercase letters

You can mix and match these; for example, you can define a mask such as LL99lll.

On the mask management screen, the Nomen. button allows you to display the product code nomenclature, a tree structure that describes the organisation of the coding system.

===== Using ‘ =====’

When creating a new product, use the menu option Generate a nomenclature code from the context menu of the Product Code

The screen below will appear, allowing you to:

• select the applicable bill of materials options
• specify the product code suffix that will identify the newly created product.

Upon validation, the new product code will be correctly initialised.

When the BOM management menu is enabled, the context menu for the product table allows you to view the bill of materials, and thus the breakdown of the product code.
