It is possible to structure a product code (or an asset code) so that it means something on its own.
For example, a food distributor could code its products as follows:
A BS-ALC-001-BUL-NEUVILLEBTR product could therefore designate a Brut Tradition from an excellent brand of Champagne (the separator is optional, we could have BSALC001BULNEUVILLEBTR)
This is useful for catalogs with a large number of products, but also for classifying numerous fixed assets (in this case, there is no specific identifier).
The general parameter allows you to define the number of hierarchical coding levels desired for the product code (between 1 and 7) as well as the possible separator (hyphen, dash bottom or underscore, slash or slash, star, etc.), and any code entry masks (you can specify, for example, that the 3rd level code will only contain numerical values).
Input masks can include:
You can mix it up, for example define a mask LL99lll, which would therefore contain two uppercase letters, two numbers, and three lowercase letters.
On this screen, the Nomenclature button allows you to display the product code nomenclature, a tree structure which describes the organization of the codifications.
When creating a new product, use the Generate BOM Code menu option from the context menu of the Product Code area
The screen below will be displayed, and will allow you:
Upon validation, the new product code will be initialized.
When nomenclature management is activated, it is possible to display the nomenclature of any product from the context menu of the product table.
