General settings: Computer

FIXME A1 proofreading not yet effective for this page. In the meantime, you can ask any questions on the forum.

The settings in the previous tabs are valid for the entire application, regardless of the connected user or the machine they are using.

The settings in this tab are specific to the machine the user is logged in to. It would thus be possible, for example, to use different SMTP servers within the same network.

It is in the Statement output directory that the pdf files from the Gestan reports will be generated, as well as the data export files. You can use your My Documents directory, or any other directory.

PDF generation allows you to specify the driver used for PDFs. In general, it is the printer driver (that of the default printer) which will produce the most accurate results. But there are sometimes constraints linked to these local drivers, and in this case, using the generic driver is a good workaround. The generic driver does not use the local printer driver, and therefore guarantees the same results regardless of the machine.

:INFO: The pdfs obtained by clicking on the pdf button in the print preview are always generated via the local driver.

These are the parameters used by Gestan to send emails, for example when you send a quote or an invoice by email to your customer.

The SMTP server is the “pipe” which will be used by Gestan to send emails, for example an invoice that you want to send to a contact. Preferably use the SMTP of your domain name. For professional use, we strongly advise against the use of generic SMTP (Google, Yahoo, etc.), as confidentiality is not guaranteed. It is the provider of your domain name who must provide you with the address of your SMPT server, the list of SMTP servers is also available on the web.

If you use an authenticated email account, you will need to specify an mail account (generally your email address), a port (generally 465 in SSL or 587 in TLS), a password (only if you use authenticated SMTP). The Auth G3 box allows you to use Google G3 authentication.

Consult your email address provider to obtain the value of these parameters.

To use your SMTP with Gestan Cloud, communicate the following two elements to Cloud Support:

  • the name of the server (generally of the type smtp.monfournisseur.tld)
  • the port number to use

Examples of settings

Domains at OVH

Make sure to enable authentication for the outgoing server (SMTP). If this is not done, you may receive a 553 error sorry, that domain isn't allowed to be relayed through this MTA (#5.7.1).

If you have an MX Plan email address

  • Server: ssl0.ovh.net
  • Port: 465
  • Security: SSL
  • Account: your main email address (untel@mondomaine.fr)
  • Password: the password that corresponds to this address

Other settings observed:

  • Server: ssl0.ovh.net, or pro3.mail.ovh.net
  • Port: 587
  • Security: TLS
  • G3 authentication: checked

If you have an EXCHANGE email address

  • Server name: ex3.mail.ovh.net
  • Port: 587
  • Encryption method: TLS

:WARNING: this setting does not work for all OVH domains, we do not know why.

Domains at Ionos (ex 1and1 or 1&1)

  • Server: smtp.ionos.fr
  • Port and protocol: 465 in SSL, or 587 in TLS
  • Security: SSL
  • Account: your main email address (untel@mondomaine.fr)
  • Password: the password that corresponds to this address

Domain at Godaddy

Godaddy uses several SMTP servers, whose IPs may vary. Also, to use a Godaddy SMTP, you must use an IP, and not an address like smtpout.secureserver.net.

The allowed IPs are as follows (on port 25):

  • 173.201.192.229
  • 173.201.193.228
  • 68.178.252.101
  • 173.201.192.101
  • 68.178.252.229
  • 173.201.193.101
  • 176.74.176.187

Domains at Infomaniak

  • Server: mail.infomaniak.com
  • Port and protocol: 587
  • Security: none
  • Account: your main email address (untel@mondomaine.fr)
  • Password: the password that corresponds to this address

Google Address / gMail Server

Non-recommended solution, see SMTP GMail Server.

The context menu of the SMTP field presents some useful options:

  • use Gestan SMTP: using Gestan SMTP is comfortable (no configuration) but is only a solution while waiting for your own SMTP configuration. Emails sent via Gestan's SMTP server are marked “Sent with Gestan”. Mass mailings are prohibited. GDPR information: This SMTP server is operated by Brevo (French company, not subject to the Patriot Act / Cloud Act), and falls under the data protection conditions set out by Brevo in its privacy policy. ICS-Informatique personnel have access to the same information as Brevo personnel, and are bound by confidentiality and data protection obligations as set out in its CGV and its confidentiality policy.
  • select an ISP: allows you to start configuration with known ISPs.
  • you can store the SMTP settings, test another setting, then restore the stored settings. Very practical, especially when you don't know the password of the account you want to change!
  • go to the SMTP page of the wiki.

The Format addresses check box allows you to send emails with the person's name rather than their email address: if it is checked, you will see “First Name Last NameExped” instead of “exped@my-company. com” in your email client. You can uncheck it if you notice problems with the provider of your email address.

The Delay field allows you to declare a duration between the sending of two emails. Some SMTP servers work poorly when they are “at full speed”, so it is useful to slow down the sending speed with this parameter (this when you send a series of emails via the Gestan e-mailing tool). The same goes for the Disconnect check box, which causes a disconnection/reconnection of the SMTP session every X mail.

The Use the same SMTP for all stations check box allows you to not have to make settings on each machine, but to use the same SMTP server for all users in the database.

The test button 1 allows you to test the operation of the settings you have entered, with or without email address formatting.

It may happen that sending emails sends the following error:
The Wlanguage mechanism detected a system error.

Error Details: A certificate chain was processed but ended with a root certificate that is not trusted by the trust provider.

To resolve this problem, which can happen for example following a change of SSL certificate with your SMTP provider, simply check the Auth G3 box.

The TAPI settings button allows you to specify which of your TAPI devices accessible from your computer should be used: if you have a PABX as a telephone switchboard Gestan allows you to dial telephone numbers directly from the software, no need for the keypad phone, two clicks are enough (the operation of the card lift is not guaranteed).

The telephone prefix area allows you to enter the telephone indicator for connection to the external network, if applicable.

If you selected a TAPI device:

  • a “Call” button is displayed on the contact list: clicking on this button brings up the automatic telephone call pattern.
  • an option in the main menu (contact > incoming call detection) allows you to launch the incoming call detection program (Tel_detect.exe) which should theoretically allow the listing of a calling contact.

Height of TDL lines allows you to adjust the height of the lines of the to-do list in the main menu of Gestan. Indeed, depending on the screen resolutions, it is not always well adapted.

Button spacing is the same, but for the spacing between the buttons.
