Connection to Gestan

FIXME A1 proofreading not yet effective for this page. In the meantime, you can ask any questions on the forum.

To connect to Gestan, you must click on the icon installed on your computer after installing Gestan.

This will open the Gestan login screen.

The Gestan connection screen allows you to select the base to which you want to connect (if you have declared several bases), as well as to enter your code and password.

If the “remember” box is checked, the code and password will be pre-populated at the next connection. All you have to do is click on “connect”. And if the connection is declared as automatic in the connections table, the login screen will not even be displayed, the connection will be made directly.

The “Lost password” link allows you to re-send your password to the user's email address. If the latter has been incorrectly informed, you will then have to resort to technical support.

At the bottom right of the connection screen is the address of the base to which you want to connect, the address of the server in the case of a Client/Server base, the directory in the case of a base “LAN.”

If you have lost your password, click on the lost password link in the login window. This opens the screen below.

This screen allows you to send your code and password by email, either from your Gestan user code, or from one of the email addresses you have provided (professional email address or personal email address, if you have them). entered), either from your last name – normally, you should know at least one of these three elements – or to the first administrator of the database, who will be able to modify your password.

If you entered an exotic setting when initializing the database via the startup wizard, it may not work. You then have two solutions: destroy the database (there is no point in uninstalling the program, this does not delete the data), or request technical support intervention via remote control: this is the purpose of the button Argh!.

The context menu (right-click on this screen) presents the options below:

Show Tools allows four icons to be displayed, provided the code and password entered are correct.

The 1 icon opens the connections table.

The 2 icon allows you to reindex files: like politicians, it can happen that files are corrupted. For files, it's not too serious, this tool allows you to reindex them.

The 3 icon allows you to delete the connections file. This forces Gestan to restart from the installation wizard. Normally you shouldn't use this, but we have observed cases where this possibility is useful.

The 4 icon is reserved for technical support.

Via Clear all passwords, all passwords stored on the computer will be erased: this will force the next user to enter a code and password.

Deleting saved connections allows you to force Gestan to restart the startup wizard, as when you first started the Gestan installation.

Open directory opens the one where the data is stored.
