After downloading the software from www.gestan.fr, launch the installation by double-clicking on the file (GESTAN_install_Ax.EXE).
Gestan's most traditional mode of operation is one in which the program queries the database directly. This is the “Classic Mode”.
For larger numbers of users, we recommend using the "Client/server mode".
The file to download is the same whether you opt for the Standard, Enterprise or Client/Server version, in single-user or multi-user mode.
When you launch Gestan for the first time, a wizard opens to help you install the software.
The first screen allows you to choose the language in which the wizard will run.
Then the wizard asks us what we want to do: create a new database, or connect an existing one.
We've chosen Create a new database.
The following screen outlines the main features of Gestan:
On this screen, we have chosen :
The next screen will allow you to specify certain details, depending on the type of use declared on the previous screen.
If you're based in Canada and the installer hasn't detected this (e.g. due to a computer purchased in the USA), check the Company is located in Canada box.
The next step is to specify the database location.
In the case above, we're installing the database in the C:\GESTAN\SOFAR SARL directory.
Gestan is natively multi-user. You can install the database on a network location: several users will be able to use Gestan at the same time from different computers, and any changes made by one workstation will be immediately visible to all the others.
NAS are not designed to host databases. If you don't have a high-end NAS, response times won't be as good as with a normal computer or data server.
Don't put the database in a synchronized directory (DropBox, Google Drive, etc.), there is a risk of data loss.
Please integrate the Gestan data directory into your backup strategy.
Finally, a last screen informs you that the database is about to be created. Check that you haven't made a mistake with the e-mail address, as this is the address to which the login details for the new database will be sent.
If you wish, check subscribe to the Gestan newsletter to receive the latest Gestan news by e-mail approximately once a quarter.
The database creation process then begins…
… and the final screen tells you that all has gone well.
You'll then see the Gestan login screen, and your code and password will allow you to connect to the application.
The Windev framework (the set of dlls used by the program), is installed in the directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\PC SOFT\2x.0\Framework
