Gestan directory structure

FIXME A1 proofreading not yet effective for this page. In the meantime, you can ask any questions on the forum.

Gestan works with:

In the program directory:

(by default C:\Program Files (x86)\GESTAN)

  • executable programs: Gestan.exe, TelDetect.exe, and Chrono.exe
  • the RESOURCES subdirectory containing certain resources used by Gestan

In the Windows shared directory:

(C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\PC SOFT\25.0\Framework)

  • the dynamic libraries necessary for the program (.dll files). These dlls are copied to the program directory when used on a USB key

In the data directory:

(by default C:\GESTAN)

  • the DATABASE directory, which contains the necessary data files (.FIC, .NDX, .MMO files),
  • the DOCUMENTS directory, which contains the other files that you can use in Gestan, linked to contacts (files of all types, accessible via the “Documents” screen) (linked files)
  • the BACKUPS directory, which contains the backups made in the event of structure modification, manual reindexing, and the systematic backups made by periodic maintenance
  • the RESOURCES directory, which contains local resource files (if any)

Backup!

It never hurts to remember that professional data (whether managed via Gestan or any other program) must be subject to an extremely rigorous backup strategy. See this page.
